an excerpt :... "summarizes two new studies from the journal Health Affairs, documenting the explosion in the use–and cost–of psychotropic drugs over the last decade. One study found that between 1996 and 2006, “prescriptions for mental health medications increased by 73% among U.S. adults and by 50% among children.” As of 2006, one in 10 U.S. adults takes at least one prescription for this purpose"[snip]

We have bought into the well-advertised story - "take a pill and it is easy", or else "it will save your life".... all at a huge cost that is never revealed.
It is predominantly in the USA that the sales pitch has worked so well. Using the cover up of common sense and common substances to Cure what cannot be cured but only partially or slightly changed, we are barraged with doctor-advising and advertising. Medications are the easiest way to provide medical "help".
Just write a prescription and get paid for the visit or call. No need for deep thoughtful diagnosis or history taking. No need for individual care. Statistics with genralizations are enough proof to professionally state that " this little expensive pill/drug will save you from whatever you think you are feeling that should NOT BE SO.
You should feel good all the time. You should never be uneasy or uncomfortable or different than your models. You should not have to feel anything at all except pleasure or numbness. We have a pill for any feelings you dont want or like. "
No need to suffer or even think you are suffering.
The AMA and all it's profiteers and alliances have convinced the USAmericans that only they can do nature's work and better and at a much higher cost too. No need to use mental health talk or other healing therapies when a pill will maybe [or often not] do.
The placebo effect is most often about 1/3 of the effect anyhow. The white coat or gown or fancy office plays another percentage of the helping role. The expensive education must have surely given that doctor/medical practitioner some invaluable knowledge, like dispensing pills being the primary one used [sometimes the same stuff comes in liquid form, but it is not liked as magically good tho].
And we have exported this notion that pills are the best and safest and easist. Magical word "easiest". The whole world agrees. Hand us some more pills, please.
Not all medications are unnecessary. Never think that. But much more prescriptions are written and taken for what is only a slight, mild, little, or negative effect on the actual medical problem. Much more 'you need our medicine' is advertised right to the consumer to then instruct their prescriber what they want w/o even an expert diagnosis involved.
So who is surprised that 1/10 of those we may know are popping pills and forgetting how to throw them back up. Thow up the idea that pills solve everything. That there is or should be a pill available for any unwanted thought, sensation, not-allowed-feeling. And many medications do very little if anything actually. NIMH admits most studies are not as good as they want to sound, actually. Proof positive is not always as it is advertised either.
Like for demenia. Like aging effects, Like looking less than screen star-gorgeous. Like being less than super-muscular. Like a little agitation or anxiety that is feared to be dangerous or deadly even. Like any sensation that is not usual or suddenly felt. Like doing whatever "the doctor Orders !" tho the positive effects are not actually noted to be helpful after all. Or not for very long.
We have become pill-prone, laying down to do whatever the fad, mode, sales job has insisted is "best for you, dearie" when they forget to tell us how they are bested up by our purchasing [yes, even thru insurance or govt programs, it's our money still being used for these purchases ] the drugs.
Fear mongering is pervasive and a new wave continually erupts and flows into every news story or media coverage. "Take a pill and the fear will diminish, for a moment or two anyhow." Fear of getting sick or uncomfortable is highly prevalent. "Take a pill, just in case," even if the probability may be very small of being actually ill enough to lay in bed for a day.
We have been sold a box of pills that is putting minds to sleep and quiets any questions right into the black hole of "that is an irrelevant question" [but who decides this ? yes, we know]
We no longer question if we need the prescriptions, we ask for them, or may not even fill them, but pay for them in some form or other. We believe that all is genetic or body only and whatever else there is can also be changed and improved with another pill for the mind or emotions or socialization process. There is a medication or 25 more easily available for every possible concern or questioned part of us.
Most are not essential. A good number may be, for a while. Chronic illness people rely on pills - assuming they are saving themselves from worse, when 'chronic' means not temporal or improving either. To be relieved of pain and deep suffering is important and should always been attempted, tho it may not be effected at times.
Most of what is sold, bought, prescribed, resold on the streets, and used to OD on is a waste of money, waste of our resources, and a waste of our intelligent questioning minds.
This article has good information, thought provoking and hopefully not pill popping being the effect any more. Time to be checking OURSELVES in and out about what we need, what works, for how long, what it costs actually, and what we have been sold into pill-slavery for all this time.

Mother Jones writes about flu scares tooo...so here is my comment
Kevin Drum in Mother Jones opinions barely mentions Y2 and all the nerdy comments are giving credence or differences, while the current topic 9 years later is the hyping of Swines carrying in buckets slops of flu with which to kill entire populations...or so the media hype implies...
Like an author called Cullen who reviewed and rewrote the story on Columbine said, the messages turn into myths as they regurgitate back into those who Seem To Know but actually dont know....so the media puts out a news report....many people comment and exaggerate and dramatize it...the media reports on that flurry of emotional arousal again...
the doctors = [they get good money and business from this SCARE as do pharmaceutical co.s and all health care places, including "emergency" rooms who can increase budgets because of "increased needs" = go figure who gains from the media blasts about how many are [not] dying from flu in this USA, at least ] love the limelight and increased ability to bill for calls, visits, scaredy swine calls.....
the public has something to gossip and talk about besides loss of pensions, income, IRA's, jobs...let's focus on something even worse than loss of savings and ability to pay rent...let's focus on our lives, deaths, sick loved ones...now that's surely more serious, no ?
the news and their corporate/ advertisers get lots of play and attention which is always good for their profitting bottom lines...
the CDC is exposed to be limited in how much they know, but they do know this and have said so [not well known or re-told] : "there are 36,000 deaths from flu every year in the USA...." huh? you mean 1 more is not significant or a big worry ?
Researching a bit more finds that the flu in USA has been "mild", the CDC top man in Los Angeles said wearing those pretty blue masks does very little to protect anyone [the ones wearing them or the ones looking at those they no longer recognize as 'friendly faces' ]
and the Mexican Swines are to be condemned, after the drug cartels, of course...for allowing their obviously 'failed state' to not protect their own people. What a good reason to have a hygenic wall built on our southern border, no ?
Or better screen all those illegals that continually elude our border patrol. Why not ? It sounds more reasonable than it did before the Fear Flu Scare.
so back to the real topic of the day is not computer bugs and updates, but what is the latest fad and hype and spin and waaaaaaaaaaaaay exaggerated FEAR promoted for who knows what reasons ? yes, we can imagine a bunch...wanna share what you think is being hidden or denied under this latest SCARE ?

Mother Jones article about Obama and our concerns exposed now

Eugene Jarecki: America tends to fall victim to an overzealous belief in the cult of personality. For Americans, history seems to begin way back with Jesus, Mohammad, and Genghis Khan, and then sometime later there is Hitler and Martin Luther King, until we reach George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and now Barack Obama. That is a wrong-headed view of history. Surely the big individuals in our collective history matter, but they are always a reflection of mass movements underneath them. ....
What is happening right now is that the public voted for change, so it has a great deal of idealism invested. It is imperative that the public look at these appointments and ask itself, "So far, does this look like what I was expecting?" Instead, what is happening is that the public has gone lame duck. We cannot afford that. Left to its own devices, Washington will absolutely devour Barack Obama. .....
This country is a work in progress, you are a vital part of it, and it will go to hell in a handbasket without your vigilance," is hard…And yet it's true. "

Has anyone yet admitted and explained to us, the gullible public, why most of the news media promoted Obama so fervently and diligently ? and how they definitely continously helped create his ordination into sainthood, also by using both FDR and Lincoln as collaborating pillars of the past- implying openly that he was now fulfilling their programs / missions too. Such significant forefathers to lean on for fame and fortune and future programs. my, my...
And while the now Prez claimed he did not run a racially slanted campaign [except when he spoke in an obvious dialect to certain crowds, slyly laughing along with everyone who pretended they didnt get the joke on others ] and while he instead assisted and let 'others' say it for him - as all the pop talk was about being a "black president" vs. being a effective president - or we can use any adjective other than a color-bound one to describe what was now wanted.
He did not have to say or openly imply that race was an issue, everyone else was saying it for him and insuring that "America fulfill it's promise" to one group within it's national boundaries anyhow.And right after winning, everyone could say it aloud, like one of the 7 deadly prohibited words in TV, he was "black", not mixed, not mulatto, not ...well just "black", obviously so with a dark toned wife and children to prove his choice of lifestyle and genotype. But...he was not admitting to be that before the game was over. He won. Now he could be ...well, anything he chose to image and status himself as being, having won the power to rule. Wow. That's a great trick.
A small, if the USA census numbers are correct,the portion of USA - about 14% are African-American - our grouped populations [check the stats out please ]. So Obama's image as a minority is correct, but as representing more of the USA population is a questionable statement. He does not represent a majority across this nation, and his experience is also not full or wide. His intelligence, charm, charisma and personality is clearly a big benefit, especially as an American President. Diplomatically anyhow.
Of course, looks make images and our choices in marriage make our alliances & appearances seem stable too. Who do we CHOSE to be ? How wonderful to have these choices not every person worldwide has, to chose to be in this group or that one or another preferable group. But the adulation this man bought, in the pre-winning days, in the alternative Democratic votes and the obtaining the USA elections, was evident.
All the media was full of propaganda,and [not announced as ] PR,and all the hard-soft-any-but-sell-us promotions, along with fancy grandstanding... and lots of money-paid-for-campaign manuevers too [ all the advertising - selling - of an image to get those votes, and maybe more ? ]. And the clever sales stories like all consumer advertising was fed repeatedly and grandly by the [paid] news media and so people engorged on the ideal that many now may doubt any human man can fulfill.
But the work was not all done by one political party's due diligence or Democrat's appea. Some of the work was done by those voting against, the prior-old-ruler, opposing what was, as usual,as much wanting & voting for a 'new' image for America. After 8 years. Of course. Time for change, no matter who said it. It was an obvious and good line.
Bush insured that the next prez would not look like him in any way, especially in his last harsh sad years. The economic catastrophe also happening deep into the future insured that a "new" paradigm had to be presented, no matter if it doesn't work...yet...if when it can or ever does .... and the regeneration of younger voters via the internet and cell phone technology gadget proliferation helped turn the dream into a promise that instant change and improvement are as good as the consumerist stuff bought. And the fun & games of such media confirmation also gave Obama the advantage that prior presidents never even had - to be able reach their "millenium" little ones anywhere they happened to be at that moment, to come to vote and to wear colorful t-shirts advertising their dreams in full colored face [red,white & blue]. New times, but old advertising ploys, played well, once again.
and now... after the fact and the elections have been completed and shifted over
the results are ......?????? hmmmmmmmm......
fear and difficult worries and dismay are entering the public dialogues once again. even in the news media, that was so sure and repetitively conformist to PC idealism, is saying the same as has been newsworthy & sensationalist all along... we are not in a new millenium with new gadgets to get us to change out of our losses and difficulties.

we'll see...sadly...but we must see clearly now.
no prez is powerful enough to make the changes he promised so blithely before.
not even if his race is now openly stated and used to build up his power. Black Power! the shout of 3-4 decades ago. Has it become a better reality ?
